Stimulation of the sphenopalatine ganglion in intractable cluster headache: expert consensus on patient selection and standards of care.
2014
Context and overview Chronic cluster headache (CCH) is a debilitating headache disorder with a significant impairment of the patients' lives. Within the past decade, various invasive neuromodulatory approaches have been proposed for the treatment of CCH refractory to standard preventive drug, but only very few randomized controlled studies exist in the field of neuromodulation for the treatment of drug-refractory headaches. Based on the prominent role of the cranial parasympathetic system in acute cluster headache attacks, high-frequency sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) stimulation has been shown to abort ongoing attacks in some patients in a first small study. As preventive effects of SPG-sti…

Interventions to Reduce Platelet Prophylactic Transfusions in Patients with Hypoproliferative Thrombocytopenia: Providing Patients with the Fu…
2013
SUMMARY To reduce the infectious and immunologic complications of platelet transfusions in patients with hypoproliferative thrombocytopenia, three interventions have aimed to decrease the number of prophylactic platelet transfusions received by such patients for the prevention of bleeding. These are the reduction of the platelet count threshold triggering prophylactic transfusion, the administration of low-dose (as opposed to standard-dose) platelet transfusions, and the administration of therapeutic (as opposed to prophylactic) platelet transfusions. We demonstrate that—in terms of absolute risk reduction in all infectious and some immunologic complications of transfusion— patients can ben…
The European network for care of children with paediatric rheumatic diseases : Care across borders
2019
Objectives. To provide an overview of the paediatric rheumatology (PR) services in Europe, describe current delivery of care and training, set standards for care, identify unmet needs and inform future specialist service provision. Methods. An online survey was developed and presented to national coordinating centres of the Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation (PRINTO) (country survey) and to individual PR centres (centre and disease surveys) as a part of the European Union (EU) Single Hub and Access point for paediatric Rheumatology in Europe project. The survey contained components covering the organization of PR care, composition of teams, education, health care and …
Association de radiothérapie externe et de curiethérapie pour les cancers de la prostate
2017
International audience; Brachytherapy as sole treatment is standard of care for D’Amico classification low-risk prostate cancer. For intermediate and high-risk patients, brachytherapy can be associated to external beam radiation therapy to better take into account the risk of extracapsular effraction and/or seminal vesicle involvement. Three randomized studies have shown that this association increases freedom from relapse survival compared to exclusive external beam radiation therapy. This benefit is not shown for overall survival. The addition of a hormonal therapy to this association is most likely mandatory for high-risk patients, and needs to be confirmed for intermediate risk patients…
Curative therapies are superior to standard of care (transarterial chemoembolization) for intermediate stage hepatocellular carcinoma.
2017
Background and aims the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer intermediate stage (BCLC-B) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) includes extremely heterogeneous patients in terms of tumor burden and liver function. Transarterial-chemoembolization (TACE) is the first-line treatment for these patients although it may be risky/useless for someone, while others could undergo curative treatments. This study assesses the treatment type performed in a large cohort of BCLC-B patients and its outcome. Methods retrospective analysis of 485 consecutive BCLC-B patients from the ITA.LI.CA database diagnosed with naive HCC after 1999. Patients were stratified by treatment. Results 29 patients (6%) were lost to follo…
Late Non-Relapse Mortality (NRM) after Standard-of-Care (SOC) CAR-T Cell Therapy for Large B-Cell Lymphoma (LBCL): Frequency, Causes, and Risk Factor…
2021
Abstract Introduction Although the labeled CD19 targeting CAR-T cell constructs axi-cel and tisa-cel are generally associated with an acceptable safety profile, non-relapse deaths can occur. Little is known about timing, causes and predictors of NRM following SOC CAR-T cell therapy for LBCL. Here, we analyzed frequency, causes, and risk factors of non-relapse deaths with focus on late NRM (beyond 4 weeks after dosing) using registry data provided by the DRST, the national partner of the EBMT. Methods Patients were selected from 356 consecutive patients who received SOC CAR-T treatment of LBCL between November 2018 and April 2021 at 21 German centers and were registered with the DRST/EBMT. B…

P-1275 - Insight change in schizophrenia: a SMS-based approach
2012
Introduction Many patients with schizophrenia are unaware of the symptoms and consequences of their illness. Poor insight has been associated with medication non-adherence, frequent relapses, and poor prognosis. Objective To assess the effect of daily Short Message Service (SMS) reminders on patients’ insight. Methods A multicenter, prospective, randomized, controlled study was conducted. Outpatients with at least 18 years old, diagnosis of schizophrenia (DSM-IV), and adherence problems (at least one affirmative answer Morisky Green questionnaire) were included. Participants were randomized to receive a daily SMS reminder on their cell phone to take their medication in the following 3 month…
Activities related to inflammatory bowel disease management during and after the coronavirus disease 2019 lockdown in Italy: How to maintain standard…
2020
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Restructuring activities have been necessary during the lockdown phase of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Few data are available on the post-lockdown phase in terms of health-care procedures in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) care, and no data are available specifically from IBD units. We aimed to investigate how IBD management was restructured during the lockdown phase, the impact of the restructuring on standards of care and how Italian IBD units have managed post-lockdown activities. METHODS: A web-based online survey was conducted in two phases (April and June 2020) among the Italian Group for IBD affiliated units within the entire country. We inv…
Detection of RAS mutations in circulating tumor DNA: a new weapon in an old war against colorectal cancer. A systematic review of literature and meta…
2019
Background: Tissue evaluation for RAS (KRAS or NRAS) gene status in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients represent the standard of care to establish the optimal therapeutic strategy. Unfortunately, tissue biopsy is hampered by several critical limitations due to its invasiveness, difficulty to access to disease site, patient’s compliance and, more recently, neoplastic tissue spatial and temporal heterogeneity. Methods: The authors performed a systematic literature review to identify available trials with paired matched tissue and ctDNA RAS gene status evaluation. The authors searched EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane, www.ClinicalTrials.gov , and abstracts from international meetings. In to…
